Toyin Saraki’s father, Otunba Adekunle Ojora dies at 93

A prominent Lagos royal patriarch and respected boardroom figure, Otunba (Dr.) Adekunle Ojora, has died at the age of 93.

The revered traditional leader, who was the father of Mrs. Toyin Ojora-Saraki, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the family announced in a statement.

Born on June 13, 1932, Otunba Ojora was a towering figure in Lagos traditional, cultural and royal affairs, widely admired for his distinguished lineage, wisdom and lifelong service to society.

Until his death, he held several notable titles, including Otunba of Lagos, Lisa of Ife, Olori-ebi of the Ojora Royal Family, Chief Olori Omoba of Lagos, Head of the Oba Ologunkutere and Oba Adele Ajosun Royal Family, and Head of the Aiyeomosan Chieftaincy Family of Lagos.

Throughout his lifetime, Otunba Ojora played a pivotal role in the preservation of Yoruba heritage, the strengthening of royal institutions and the promotion of unity among Lagos chieftaincy families.

Announcing his passing, the family, in a statement signed by Mrs. Toyin Ojora-Saraki, said the patriarch returned to his Creator in total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT).

“We say Alhamdulilahi for a life well lived, and we comply with Allah’s words: ‘Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall all return’ (Qur’an 2:156),” the statement read.

The family disclosed that the late royal father will be buried in Lagos in accordance with Islamic rites.

Otunba Adekunle Ojora is survived by his wife, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy deeply etched into the history, culture and royalty of Lagos.

The family urged members of the public to join them in prayers, asking Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and a place in Aljannah Firdaus.
